Independent ceiling system is designed to reduce both impact and airborne sound in a building's ceiling. The Independent Ceiling system, as provided by SPS, is presented as a cost-effective and efficient solution for improving sound insulation in ceilings. It involves a series of components and steps to enhance acoustic performance. This Independent Ceiling system offers a high level of soundproofing performance relative to its cost, making it a cost-effective solution for improving acoustic insulation in ceilings. By combining the properties of acoustic mineral wool, resilient bars, and specialized boards, this system aims to provide an efficient and affordable way to reduce both airborne and impact noise in a building's interior spaces.

Key features

1. Uncompromising  Design: The Independent Ceiling system is designed to maximize sound reduction while minimizing the amount of space it takes up. It can be a suitable option when you need to meet Building E regulations and are limited to working on the ceiling side of a structure. The required space typically ranges from 170mm to 250mm, depending on joist sizes.

2. Effective Decoupling: A 25mm air gap is maintained between the existing ceiling and the new ceiling structure. This separation prevents direct contact between the two ceilings, helping to eliminate sound vibrations from traveling through the building's framework, which can be a common source of noise issues.

3. Acoustic Insulation: When combined with acoustic rock-wool and two layers of acoustic plasterboard, the Resilient Bar system significantly improves both airborne and impact noise insulation. This means it can effectively reduce both sound transmission through the air and sound caused by physical impacts.

4. Compliance with Regulations: The system can be used to meet Part E Regulations for separating floors, ensuring that the required acoustic performance standards are met in compliance with building codes.

Performance:
- Independent Ceiling:
Ceiling Depth Gain: 170-250m
- Solution Airborne Performance: 59 dB rW
- Typical Airborne Improvement: 24 dB
- Typical Impact Improvement: 24 dB+

- Independent Ceiling + dBx Upgrade:
- Ceiling Depth Gain: 165mm-245mm
- Solution Airborne Performance: 63 dB rW
- Typical Airborne Improvement: 29 dB
- Typical Impact Improvement: 24 dB+

Recommended Upgrades:
- dBX Boards: These soundboards consist of a 15mm thick cardboard shell filled with fine sand. This combination of materials provides excellent mass and density, essential for effective noise reduction. Using dBX boards in conjunction with the Resilient Bar system may provide additional benefits.
- MLV50 Membrane: Mass-loaded vinyl membranes can further enhance soundproofing performance, particularly when higher noise reduction requirements are necessary.
